Are You a Right Brainer or Left Brainer?

Right_or_left_brain_thinker The left and right brain functions are responsible for differences in people and how they process information. Whether you use your left brain and right brain together or have a dominant half explains a great deal about how you learn and express yourself.

The Art Institute of Vancouver has this Right Brain vs Left Brain Creativity Test. Results will let you know the percentages of dominance. The questions are very dependent on accurate self-assessment, but it is a fun little quiz.

Post on your blog or mine, what you discovered?
Be sure to think about:

  • How can we use this information to understand our own learning needs?
  • How can we share this knowledge with our students?
  • What implications does right/left brain dominance impact teaching and learning?

That sounds like an interesting quiz... I took the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test...the results are interesting and really make you think and reflect on your development.

Ricardo, I agree. Exercises like these really do really do give us insight into our own learning and thinking style. So, I am dying to know...are you a left or a right brainer???

So, according to this test, I'm mostly left-brained...

Sure I have a lot of moments of spontaneity but I also can't make it through my day without a "To Do" list.

How about you?

Ricardo, I am in the same boat. I love my creative side, but I absolutely need my "to do list." There is nothing better than the feeling of checking it off-creatively that is!!! Either way, it is important to be self aware-don't you think?

It's when we're "self-aware" that our days, our learning...everything...becomes more productive!

By the way, I love what you said:
"There is nothing better than the feeling of checking it off-creatively that is!" -- A.M.

The test tags me as left brained 51% and right brained 49% - I suspect the reality is the other way around, but perhaps not by very much.

Des, so many people I have talked to have come that same result. We are equally equipped and capable of being both analytical and creative simultaneously-the best of both worlds resides inside of all of us. It is a fun test to recognize that-thanks for talking the time to take it.

Angela,
After chatting on Liz's site last night (through the other Erik's laptop in class), I wanted to come back here and verify my results.

The test scored me at 53% left and 47% right. I would say that is a pretty accurate result. In fact, I might have thought it would be leaned even slightly more to the left. I tend to be an "overanalyzer" at times

It's good to know where our thought patterns are in certain situations. Thanks for sharing the link. You have a great blog going on here!!

Eric, I thought my results were really accurate as well. It does make you think more about why some tasks work for me and others are stressful. I think it helps you understand where others are coming from as well. Thanks for coming back and for the great encouragement. Your blog is looking great! I wish I could have stayed longer at mic night.
