In particular Brian will be reviewing the last 20+ years work based on an article he published in 1995 entitled "Towards an educationally relevant theory of literacy learning: Twenty years of inquiry." (Reading Teacher, 1995 49, (3) pp. 182-192.), which the International Reading Association has graciously agreed to post at the IRA website for a limited period of time.

Much of his research has been conducted in a naturalistic mode by observing in classrooms.  That research led to the publication in 1988 of The Whole Story: Natural Learning and the Acquisition of Literacy in the Classroom.  In this seminal work, Brian articulated a set of conditions for learning that has influenced the way a generation of teachers looks at the classroom environment.

Brian Cambourne was given the inaugural Garth Boomer Award, he was the second Australian to be inducted into the International Reading Association’s Reading Hall of Fame, and he has been awarded the Outstanding Educator in Language Arts by the National Council of Teachers of English.

You Don’t Want to Miss What He Has to Say! Educators will be talking about it!
