"Committed and effective teachers are essential to making No Child Left Behind work for all children."
—U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings-
Hat tip to Sheryl at 21st Century Collaborative for recently bringing to my attention via Twitter about a fantastic opportunity to celebrate excellence in teaching.
Research confirms that teachers are the single most important factor in raising student achievement. In an effort to strengthen and support America’s teaching force, the Department of Education is accepting nominations for the 2008 American Star of Teaching Award.
Parents, students, colleagues, and others are invited to nominate an exemplary teacher—one who is improving student achievement, using innovative strategies, and making a difference in the lives of students. (ED received more than 4,000 nominations for the 2007 school year).
Don’t waste any time with your entry, nominations must be in by March 21, 2008. What a great way to recognize and honor someone in the teaching profession for the important work they do daily.
