Little Ideas- Big World Changes

30347465 If you were given $10 million dollars (tax free, no strings attached, no rules or regulations)…what would you do? This was the subject of last night’s conversation with Liz Strauss at her weekly Open Mic Night over at her  Successful Blog.

The discussion started off with fantastic, out-of-the-world dreams of mansions, yachts, private island properties, and jet planes to fly all your friends there! But, things turned real world as our passions came out for making the world we live in a better place.

Many words of wisdom were shared:

gotta remember a lot of your dreams CAN actually come true :) even without the “lotto cashout” strategy for the first 10 million.

Just work on the path to get there. You just might find it at the end of that road.

Follow your passions! Go do what you love!

So… new question, friends: What can you do NOW to begin moving towards something you dream about or believe in? (Even w/o the $10 mil!)

Here’s my response to Question One: (When I had the $10 mil)

On a serious note, I would open a teacher training institute. Teachers from all over the world could receive first class professional development-FREE! When they leave the institute, they are smarter, more passionate, and motivated to change the world! Each students they touch would be infinitely impacted. A much wiser use of $10 million dollars than the current educational spending policy-don’t you think?

Stay tuned for my response AND action to Question #2! (What I am doing now w/o the $10 mil!)

My dream is to help new or struggling teachers by sharing my knowledge and experiences in order to make their lives easier. If I had millions of dollars I would be able to go to more places and reach more teachers but I’m trying to do this one small step at a time. Now I do free professional development for the local literacy association, blog, and teach a course to other teachers. Maybe in the future other opportunities will present themselves and I will be in a position to help.

Angela: What a great question. Thanks for asking!
I believe we need our brains to be fully functional, our souls intact and our sense of being one in spirit — to all be present in order to cope with the dramatic changes on the horizon. With our heightened abilities to be creative, uniquely gifted, and called to serve, we will have a different sense of how to educate, work and live in communities. With 10M, I would assemble a transition team to help others become reoriented, more resourceful and very creative when faced with unforeseen changes. In the meantime, I’m getting clear by writing my blog about the changes and what it may take to respond to functioning in networks, ecologies and interdependent communities. I’m also finding out how confusing it is for others to comprehend these disruptions fearlessly and how to express myself more clearly. I’m also gaining experience with nurturing others’ resourcefulness as I mentor a few entrepreneurs.

Pat, your efforts and committment to literacy and education come through loud and clear on your blog.
Your teachers and students are so blessed to have your passion and knowledge. I am so grateful you are blogging, so the rest of the world benefits as well. Keep up this important work, Pat.

Tom, I am working through the same with my writing. The more convicted I get about my passion and mission, the clearer my writing becomes. This is my favorite line: We need our brains to be fully functional, our souls intact and our sense of being one in spirit — to all be present in order to cope with the dramatic changes on the horizon. That is a Hall of Fame motto-Amen!
