IF I want to be better teacher, THEN...

Darren Draper, has a fantastic post on Becoming A Great Teacher. The poem he shares comes from Carl Glickman's book Leadership for Learning: How to Help Teachers Succeed. Both the poem and the book are a must read for every educator!

If Then

My Big Idea:

  • IF we want smarter kids, THEN we must become smarter.
  • IF we are to become smarter, THEN we need support from one another.
  • IF we want to be a better teacher, THEN we can do that by making learning, (not teaching) the priority!

Your turn to fill in the blanks: IF____________________, THEN ____________________

I like your focus on learning as a priority. Often, time is expressed as a major issue. Overcome the "I don't have time" (to learn something new syndrome) by approaching learning as short periods of play.

So, IF you want to learn, THEN take (at least) a few minutes to play (regularly).

Bud

As educators or would-be educators, I think it is our active DUTY to present CREATIVE yet FUNCTIONAL ways of teaching our students. We have to go with the times when it comes to teaching tools and the like.

We have to utilise such tools like the Internet to usher in a new way of learning for our students. Something that they can take with them when they get home, a new avenue of gaining new knowledge and values.

I like your post. Good job.

Bud, you are so right on! PLAY is learning, and not just for kids. I think as adults, we forget to play than what would life like? Great post on your blog-thanks for the link!

Mickey - I love your attitude! I call this bringing the outside in. With these new tools and resources, we are able to make learning creative and functional! Love your site!
