We’re getting down to the last few days before the Midwest Literacy Institute, so I thought I’d introduce some of the breakout team.
First up, my friend and colleague Ramona Slagle:
Ramona Garcia Slagle is an Academic Language Consultant, specializing in the area of explicit academic language development and achievement for linguistically diverse learners. She has worked over 17 years in education, serving as a bilingual teacher, bilingual Title I resource teacher, staff developer, literacy coach, professional development consultant manager, and national educational consultant/facilitator (K-12).
For the past 9 years, Ramona has focused on sustainable professional development. She works with state leaders, district leaders, administrators, staff developers, instructional coaches and classroom teachers, who support English language learners and native English speakers with academic language gaps.
As a speaker, Ramona has presented at NSDC, NABE, CABE and many other state and regional conferences. Her energetic presenting style, and way of honoring both adult and student learners, are part of her trademark. Participants learn new content, process at deep levels, and immediately apply new learning.
Ramona and her husband, John, live in Washington State, along with their youngest son, Jordan and their miniature Schnauzer, Max. Their eldest son, John Roland, is a graduate student in San Diego, CA. The Slagle family enjoys all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, especially picking red raspberries in the summer.
