I asked my colleagues on LeaderTalk this morning to share their thoughts and experiences on traditional, scripted Reading Programs. It will come as no surprise to you, that I believe there is no" for-profit program", that can replace a highly qualified, knowledgeable teacher when it comes to teaching students the reading competencies and habitudes necessary for literacy in the 21st Century.
Today's video describes what that instruction involves. I have found that Luke and Freebody's Four Resource Model helps paint a clear picture of the interconnected nature of of the skills and strategies involved in reading well.
