I have had the most amazing time traversing the blogosphere on the look out for the most incredible tools and resources the web has to offer. This was such a hard post to write, because I spent hours playing with all the cool tools I have shared with you each Friday on Chalk Talk trying hard to narrow down The Best of 2008.
So, here is my best shot – these are the tools and sites that got the most response and reaction, and the ones that I see being used in powerful and productive ways in schools.
I can not wait to see what 2009 has to bring! Enjoy!
- Wordle- (I know you are not surprised that this made my list)- What an amazing and versatile tool, both personally and professionally. I hope that you have had a chance to give it a try, and if not…WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! I can not say enough about Wordle!
- I have found some of the most helpful resources from Scholastic. I have often said-I need a calendar to keep up, so I would not miss a thing. Well, they listened! OK-maybe not because of me, but who cares-here it is!
- How could there be a list of anything that did not reference Google. I have used Google Docs on and off this year, and plan to explore in greater depth in the coming weeks. Here is a good place to start if you are new.
- Animoto- I have had a lot of fun experimenting with this little gem of a site. The uses are endless, and each time a create a slideshow – I get a bit more creative. What a great way to capture important events, moments, and learning.
- There are a lot of video hosting sites, but Viddler is more and more becoming my favorite. It has been a great site for my mini lessons videos as well as a resource for finding content that I like.
- Visuwords- One of the things I hated most about school was all those times I had to look up word definitions and put them in a sentence. This site makes finding out about words exciting and fun. I love the look on kids and teachers faces when the words unfold in front of their eyes! Now that is how vocabulary instruction should be!
- SearchMe- is one of my favorite ways to search, find, and organize information on the web. I can preview web search results, watch videos, listen to music, find images, review news and even find great shopping deals. (it is fantastic for shoes!)
- Compfight- Most of the fantastic images that you see in my posts come from Flickr, and this nifty little search engine helps me get the best images in the most efficient way! I absolutely love this search tool.
There is sooooo much more,mI could go on for pages. I guess you will just have to check in every Friday as Chalk Talk rings in the new year with more resources, tools, and absolutely fantabulous sites!
