This weeks mini lesson helps students to students see the importance of considering the text structure in their writing. I help students see that the foundation for constructing a piece of writing is the message; the big idea. The decisions about the structural framework are all positioned around making sure their message is clear and powerful.
Overtime students learn that a well-organized piece of writing supports readers by making it easy for them to follow and understand the message being conveyed. That's why writers write in the first place – because they have something important to say- right?!
